Iis for the Lucy Cobb Institute.

Before this secondary school was built, there wasn't a school for girls in Athens. Girls had to go away to school.

When a "mystery" letter in the newspaper pointed out that this situation was unfair, the Lucy Cobb Institute was established in 1839.

The campus of the Lucy Cobb is now the home of UGA's Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
