St. Mary’s EMS in the community In addition to responding to emergency calls, EMS staff give tours and educate the community by visiting local schools and community centers. All St. Mary’s ambulances are equipped with Remote EKG Transmission capability. Remote EKG allows our EMS personnel to transmit vital cardiac information about patients who are showing symptoms of a heart attack. This information goes directly to St. Mary’s emergency Center and can also be routed to the hand-held computer of an on-call cardiologist. As a result, diagnosis can begin even before the patient reaches the hospital, and treatment teams can be ready to provide the most appropriate possible care the moment the patient comes in. In a heart attack, time is muscle. St. Mary’s Remote EKG Transmission shaves whole minutes off the time needed to begin treatment. For information on heart attack, click here.
